Excellent Frances Hodgkins visit and floor talk

Frances Hodgkins and British modernism, at Toi Mahara Gallery, Waikanae, 27 November.

Curator Vicki Robson (above) gave a fascinating talk about Frances Hodgkins’ role in the development of British modernism in the 1920s and early 1930s. Several of her paintings are shown in the context of loaned works by her peers and artist connections of the time, especially from the avant garde Seven and Five Society, of which she was a member.

Director Janet Bayly also gave us an introduction to the Gallery and its current exhibitions.
