Art Awards

Friends of Pātaka Art Awards 

Since 2013, Friends of Pātaka have run an annual art awards initiative for artists living, working and/or studying in the Porirua area. A range of prizes is offered:

Open Award$1,000 – Currently sponsored by the Smith Family
Highly Commended Award$750 – Currently sponsored by Tommy’s Real Estate Mana
Jane Hyder Painting Award$750 – Sponsored by Jane Hyder
Creativity and Promise ScholarshipA six-month Level 4 Certificate at the Learning Connexion
First Time Entry Award$500 – Currently sponsored by Leina Isno
Viewers’ Choice Award$500 – Currently sponsored by Friends of Pataka

Many of the Friends of Pātaka Art Awards winners have gained the confidence to further their art and those who win the Open Award are supported to use the facilities at Pātaka as the Artist in Residence for a month. 

Entries are through submission of an original artwork completed within 12 months of the date of entry. All entries must be available for purchase. One work per artist.

The deadline for registration is around the beginning of August, with an entry fee of $10 for students, $20 all others.. Artworks are submitted around a fortnight later for exhibition at Pātaka Art+Museum, which opens a few days later and continues for two months.

 6 August 2022: Registration/entry form due

21-22 August: Artworks to be submitted to Pātaka Reception between 10am and 4pm each day

23-24 August: Installation of exhibition

25 August, 6pm: Exhibition opening /Awards announced

26 August-30 October: Exhibition open

30 October: Viewers’ Choice Award announced

31 October-5 November: Collection of unsold artworks
