Since 2013, Friends of Pātaka have run a hugely successful art awards initiative for artists living, working and/or studying in the Porirua area. Many of the Friends of Pātaka Art Awards winners have gained the confidence to further their art and those who win the Open Award are supported to use the facilities at Pātaka as the Artist in Residence for a month. A range of prizes is offered:

Entries are through submission of an original artwork completed within 24 months of the date of entry. All entries must be available for purchase. One work per artist. For further details please read the Conditions of Entry.

The deadline for registration is Friday 12 July 2024, with an entry fee of $10 for students, $20 all others. Artworks are submitted on 21-22 July for exhibition at Pātaka Art+Museum, which opens a few days later and continues for seven weeks.
